The  Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) in partnership with Commerce Township expects to begin work June 24 on the replacement of the bridge that carries Farr Street over the Huron River between N. Commerce Rd. and Carroll Lake Road (between Broadway and Elkins Streets). The current bridge consists of two failing nine-foot culverts.

The project includes:

  • Removal of two failing nine-foot metal culverts beneath Farr Street and replacing them with two new culverts and a bridge.
  • The new culverts will be longer, allowing for future sidewalk installation on the north side of the street.
  • Repaving Farr Street from Broadway Street to Elkin Street with asphalt.
  • Placing curbs and gutters in the are of the culvert.
  • Drainage improvements.
  • New pathway access to Mill Race Park.
  • Tree removal (starting March 25).
  • Minor utility (expected in the spring of 2024).

    PROJECT START:  June 10

    PROJECT EXPECTED COMPLETION: August 23

ROAD CLOSURE: Yes, residential and business access maintained east and west of the closure.

DETOUR: Carroll Lake Road to West Commerce Road to North Commerce Road,  back to Farr Street and vice versa.
