Township Supervisor Larry GrayWelcome to the Charter Township of Commerce. My name is Larry Gray and I’m the Township Supervisor. I’ve served our residents for over 30 years. 26+ years as a fire fighter for the Commerce Township Fire Department and since 2020, I’ve been blessed to be the Township Supervisor. I’ve lived in Commerce Township close to 40 years. I attended the local schools and raised my family here. Commerce Township is the place to be.

Commerce Township is one of the most sought-after communities to live in southeast Michigan. In 2023 Commerce was named in the top 15 safest Cities/Townships to live in the United States. Our Police services are provided by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. We have 35 Deputies assigned to serve only Commerce Township. Our 33 full-time EMT & Paramedic Firefighters, along with our complement of paid on call firefighters, staff four stations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We continue to show our dedication to our resident. With this, our Fire Department will be offering our residents Advance Life Support (ALS) in mid-2024.

Residents benefit from the award-winning Walled Lake Consolidated Schools and Huron Valley Schools districts serving our community. There are a number of parochial schools just outside our boarders serving some of our residents. St. Patrick’s, St. Williams, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory, Catholic Central, St. Thomas and St. Catherine’s Siena to name a few. Commerce Township residents enjoy sports and supporting our teams, especially our high schools; Northern Knights, Central Vikings, Western Warriors and the Lakeland Eagles all are Class A sporting programs.

Our 1200 acres of township parks are home to youth baseball, softball, soccer, football, pickle ball, off-road mountain biking, hiking, or if you participate in any family outdoor activity, it’s here for you. Proud Lake State Park is headquartered in Commerce Township adding 4700 more acres for year-round use with three public boat launches across Commerce Township. Commerce Township and the City of Wixom are partners in the Michigan Airline Trail. This partnership added an additional 5.3 miles of pathway and is an integral part of the State of Michigan’s: Great Lake to Lake Trail which runs 270 miles from Port Huron to South Haven, MI. The Michigan Airline Trail connects to the M5 bike path creating an alternate travel to work and shops as well as a spectacular exercise or outdoor experience.

Our Downtown Development Authority is home to a $300-million-dollar investment, constructing a restaurant filled, entertainment site with retail, and residential planned urban development. The project will reside at the intersection of M5 and Martin Parkway. With the development, there will be 100 acres of green space and six miles of walking paths open to the public. The urban development is planned to start in early 2024
