RCOC’s contractor is planning to starting milling Commerce Rd from Carrol Lake Rd to Union Lake Rd on September 8.
Once the milling is completed shoulder work and paving will start shortly after. All work is done under flag control and the road is open to traffic.
Preservation overlays, commonly known as simple resurfacing or short-term paving projects, consist of placing 2 to 2.5 inches of asphalt on a road's surface after portions of the road are milled.
This technique is done on heavier-traveled roads considered moderately in good shape.
The paving also does NOT include gravel sections of roads. The preservation overlay method will extend the life of the road until there is a longer-term project, such as reconstruction or resurfacing with extensive work done on the road's base.
Most projects can be completed quickly and often under flaggers, employed by the contractor, who direct traffic within the construction zone; however, others involving federal or Tri-Party (provided by Oakland County general government) funding will take longer to complete.
If the safety of motorists and workers becomes an issue, the road could be intermittently closed (especially areas that intersect with a busy road).
