Join us for National Library Week to spread some joy!
National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role that libraries and library professionals play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. This week, we encourage all residents to visit the library, explore our resources, and celebrate all the ways that the library helps our community find joy.
We want to spread joy with you!
- Stop in the Library and grab a blank postcard. Write a postcard to a resident of the Avalon of Commerce Township, and help us spread joy to seniors living in our community. We will deliver finished postcards at the end of the month.
- Share a message with us! This National Library Week, we want to hear your stories of why the Library is so important to you. Maybe you have a favorite memory you'd like to share, a special outcome in your life that the Library helped prep you for, or a staff shout out. Share with us, and we will share with our Library Board!
This National Library Week, you might ask us, "Hey Commerce Township Community Library, what do libraries do, anyway?"
- libraries spark creativity, fuel imagination, and inspire lifelong learning
- libraries serve as vibrant community hubs, connecting people with knowledge, technology, and resources while fostering civic engagement
- libraries provide free and equitable access to books, digital tools, and innovative programming, ensuring that all individuals - regardless of background - have the support they need to learn, connect, and thrive
- libraries partner with schools, businesses, and organizations to maximize resources, increase efficiency, and expand access to essential services, strengthening the entire community
- libraries empower job seekers, entrepreneurs, and lifelong learners by providing access to resources, training, and opportunities that support career growth
- libraries nurture young minds through Storytimes, STEAM programs, and literacy initiatives, fostering curiosity and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime
- libraries protect the right to read, think, and explore without censorship, standing as champions of intellectual freedom and free expression
- dedicated librarians and library workers provide welcoming spaces that inspire discovery, collaboration, and creativity for all
- libraries, librarians, and library workers across the country are joining together to celebrate National Library Week under the theme “Find Your Joy”

"I love libraries enthusiastically every week! To serve as Honorary Chair for National Library Week takes that enthusiasm to a whole new level. Celebrating libraries, thanking library workers, visiting libraries is how I find my joy. There are so many library kids and library grown-ups who have yet to fully embrace their library joy, and I am so excited for them! When they enter the world of libraries and stories, I am confident they will find not only their library joy but their courage to believe in their own story and maybe even share it with others."
