Jeffrey Holden has spent a quarter century leading groups on Isle Royale in support of the world’s longest running predator-prey study.

This presentation will include:

  • A high-level discussion of Isle Royale and its history.
  • The history of the Wolf-Moose Study, how it got started.
  • The Winter Study – what it entails and how it sets the stage for the Summer Study.
  • The Summer Study – how the Project depends upon the volunteers to find dead moose year-in and year out.
  • Science of the study – some examples of findings.
  • Moose and Wolf bone show-and-tell.
  • Book reading – Usually a short chapter or excerpt.

Jeffrey M. Holden is the author of the award winning (2026 Notable Book of Michigan) Dead Moose on Isle Royale. He’s been associated with the Wolf-Moose Project since 2002, when he first volunteered to look for dead moose on Isle Royale. He quickly became a group leader, and he has led at least one group every year since 2005. He is the president of the Wolf-Moose Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to advance research and education that promotes the conservation of predators and their prey, especially the wolves and moose of Isle Royale. Jeffrey has degrees from Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.
