Herb Alpert, yes that Herb Alpert from just about every record collection, is currently 89 years old and has hit another remarkable milestone. On September 20th he is going to release his fiftieth album, titled "50." The famous trumpeter started his career over 60 years ago, in 1962. In that time, he has been awarded nearly 30 gold and platinum records and several Grammys. Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass have sold an estimated 72 million records worldwide. He is also noted as the only artist to top Billboard’s Top 100 as both a vocalist, and an instrumentalist.
"50" is a combination of old classics along with some new compositions. I had an opportunity to listen to a clip from “Dancing Down 50th Street,” a cheery instrumental that sounds very true to form, pretty standard Alpert. It was definitely a fun arrangement.
