It seems like when I'm writing entries for library news and reviews, I'm usually writing about food in one form or another. So if you were to see me using words like "fork," "skewer," and "skittles," you might think I'm keeping well within my comfort zone. But you'd be wrong. They're actually all chess jargon, which brings us to why you're here.
Like any skill, achieving excellence at chess requires a great deal of practice. Working out specific puzzles and studying past games are both great ways to develop your chess prowess. Seeking out the knowledge and expertise of seasoned players is another. Fortunately, you have free access to these resources with your Commerce Township Community Library card.
The database containing these secret chess weapons is called HelpNow, developed by Brainfuse. How do you get there? Just follow this link! Enter your library card number, and you're ready to start learning on a variety of topics.
To access the chess portion of the database, first click on "Skillsurfer" under Expert Help. Then click "Life Skills," then "Chess." This will bring you to a page loaded with links to develop tactics and strategy. From 4:00 to 9:00 PM Monday through Thursday you can even click for live chess instruction from ranked chess coaches.
So have fun, develop your talents, and prepare to control the board!
