Hello Commerce residents,
We would like to give you an update of the Priority Waste purchase of GFL. Some residents have been largely affected, some moderately, and some not at all. In any case, the purchase has had a less than desirable impact on the Commerce Township community.
We understand the frustration of calling Priority Waste customer service and waiting 30 minutes to speak to a representative, if at all. This is unacceptable. We are working every minute of the day with Priority Waste with complaints they are receiving, but the ones coming into the Township as well.
So, where are we? Priority Waste continues to repair damaged trucks received from GFL, and return them to service. The issues with the trucks received from GFL were: missing axles, gasoline placed in diesel fuel tanks, leaking hydraulic lines, just to name a few. Priority mechanics are working hard to get the trucks fixed and they are contracting with outside companies to speed up the repair process. Priority Waste has also rented trucks and purchased new ones to cover this gap. They are hopeful to be back on schedule in the next couple of weeks.
What can we do in the meantime about the poor service? For the next few weeks until Priority is at 100%, please continue to call their customer service line with issues. If, after calling Priority, you are still experiencing delayed service for more than 48 hours past your pick-up day, please contact Supervisor Larry Gray at lgray@commercetwp.com or 248-960-7070. He will contact Priority Waste and get you scheduled for pick up.
What has Commerce Township done due to the poor service? We’ve contacted GFL stating that we will not be paying the June bill due to poor service for the month of June. We will start discussions with Priority Waste on concessions shortly. Any funds we receive back, or do not have to pay, will be credited to the next trash billing cycle on the 2024 winter taxes.
We apologize for any inconvenience the purchase of GFL by Priority Waste has caused.
