A main component of Commerce Township water rates is the peak hour and maximum daily usage from the Great Lake Water Authority (GLWA) feeds to our system.

The water rates also fund the maintenance and operation of the system by the Oakland County Water Resources Commission (OCWRC), and system-wide improvements to enhance service reliability and stabilize pressures in the system.

The installation of the 2-million-gallon water storage tank approximately 5 years ago has allowed the Township to keep water rate increases to a minimum by filling the tank during non-peak hours and using the water from the tank during peak hours to offset the amount of water drawn from the GLWA feeds.

Township water customers can assist with reducing the peak hour and maximum day usage by limiting water usage to times outside of the hours of 5am-9am and 5pm- 9pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day. During this time of the year, water consumption, and consequently water demand, is at its highest.
