Sec. 30.08.E of the Commerce Township Zoning Ordinance states that temporary signs placed within the road right-of-way and/or corner clearance areas without a valid permit shall be removed and discarded by the Township. This prohibition applies to all temporary signs regardless of their message. In the weeks and months leading up to an election, Commerce Township typically sees an abundance of temporary election signs placed within the right-of-way along major roadways and at the corners of busy intersections. In anticipation of the November 2018 general election, Commerce Township will actively enforce Sec. 30.08.E by removing and discarding all temporary signs within the road right-of-way.
Those who wish to install personal information signs – including election signs – may do so on private property in compliance with Sec. 30.04.C of the Zoning Ordinance.
